Also consider that the very simplest of them contains as many parts as a Boeing 777… all fitting into a sphere 5 microns across. And within the nucleus of each of these cells is, if unravelled, 2 metres of DNA. So we pack a nifty 20 trillion kilometres of double helix; enough to go to the Sun and back 65,789 times… although rather disappointingly only half way to Alpha Centuri.
